For our 2nd day in NYC, we visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.(More about Ellis coming soon.) We woke up around 7, showered, got dressed, and headed down to breakfast. In case of no food review, the breakfast was very good. It was a buffet style with pancakes, fresh fruits and veggies, eggs, toast, muffins, potatoes and a ton of fresh juices. So then we headed out to take a 20 minute subway ride to the port. We stopped at a gift shop before we boarded the very crowded boat. We found some open seats, and enjoyed the wonderful view on the 20 minute boat ride. You never really know how big the statue is until you see it in person. Her torch alone is around 22 feet from the base of the handle, to the top of the fire. That’s big! then, we went into a security line and got a locker to put our backpack in. We got little audio tour - things that you hold up to your ear. Our family stopped at the original torch first. The city had to replace the original torch because it was not letting of enough light for the sailors. They decided to replace the fire with 24 karat gold leaf. After that part of the tour, we walked up about 200 steps to reach the top of her pedestal. We took in the amazing views of the city from up there. I snapped some pictures before returning to the inside. We walked back down the 200 steps and took a couple more pictures. That concluded our trip to visit Lady Liberty.
