We have had a whirlwind couple of days. We left Rome where it was VERY hot! Arrived in Siena where it is also VERY hot, but we now have a pool! Siena is a small hillside town, where Rome is a large city. We are currently in a 2 bedroom Tuscan style apartment. The apartment is nice sized, and has a small kitchen. There are several other families here, we have met some nice children from Australia.
When we arrived yesterday afternoon we went for a swim, and then walked to the local store. By the size of the market, and all the customers inside, all of the city of Siena shops there! Shoppers can buy most items there ( from television sets to produce, think Target store)
We could not read most of the labels on items, as it is all in Italian. We bought some fresh produce, cookies, and gatorade. The prices are much less expensive than home, and it made me realize how expensive our cost of living in Seattle is! For example, we bought Oreo cookies for 1.29 Euro (about $1.50) and a bunch of 6 bananas for 1.89 Euro (about $2.00) and YES... wine is cheap, with many bottles around $5.00!
Our apartment shares laundry with the other guests. I tried to do a load of laundry this morning, as the front desk had tokens to use in the machines. The problem was that all the wash and dry cycles on the machines were written in Italian:
