We have had a great time in Rome so far. We have seen the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and had countless plates of pasta and gelato. One place that we visited was the Colosseum.
Colosseum and Roman Forum
We had a tour guide, and her name was Gioia (pronounced "Joey"). The first thing we did at the Colosseum was wait in a very long line. It wasn't that long though, because we got to take the group shortcut. After that we walked up a lot of stairs to go on the first level of the Colosseum.
We learnt that this is where all the important people sat. Senators and other politicians sat here.

We looked over the side to see the arena. It was very big. Our tour guide then told us about who played on the arena. People called Gladiators, and African animals. Bears, tigers, and lions played this game, and we're not fed two days before this game. This was to make sure that the animals were hungry. The Gladiators consisted of men prisoners and slaves. The slaves would be set free if they won 35 games. This was not as easy as it sounded. They had to capture all of the Gladiators and animals to win the match. The person that decided who won was like a referee. Thumbs up from the referee, and the last two people not captured are both winners. Thumbs down meant that the last two standing had to kill each other before the winner was declared. When the winner was chosen, he walked through the winners door. The people watching from the stands had a different experience. They did not have to pay for a ticket into the Colosseum because the family that owned it was very rich. No one had to pay for admission. Also, there were free concessions for anyone that came. People that came to watch wore things to represent the Gladiator they were rooting for. Now for some facts about the Colosseum.
