I've had some time to reflect on our time in London, here is a summary:
6 nights/7 days total
47.5 miles walked during our week
For the last 2 nights we switched from our Harry Potter Chamber room to a new room. 65 stairs (one way) up to our new room!
50+ rides on the Underground Tube, with over 20 different Tube stations visited
We tried 5 different types of new candy, and 1 really terrible one!
Countless cups of tea and coffee
One order of Black Pudding that no one was brave enough to try!
On our last full day, we took a double deck bus tour around the city. London is rather large, so even though we tried to see a lot, we missed many sights! Here are some fun facts from the bus tour:
The Guards at Buckingham Palace work 24 shifts. They are "on guard" for 2 hours at a time, and then get a 4 hour break. The fur hats they wear can weigh upwards of 17 pounds!
St. Paul's cathedral took 36 years to construct and it is exactly 365 feet tall (yes, for the days of the year)
The Bell inside Big Ben is cracked. It cracked the first time they rang it because the hammer was too heavy and when it struck the bell, it cracked. They made a new, lighter hammer, although the crack still remains on the bell itself.
These are just some of the facts I was able to remember from the tour. I love the bus tours!
