Our day started with a delicious breakfast provided by the hotel. It was very good.
We started our days' adventure with a ride on the Original Tour bus. We took the bus all the way the the Tower of London. It was a thirty minute ride. My favorite part of the bus ride was when the commentator yelled: "Sit down!! You may not stand up on this bus. Sit down or get off...." It was hilarious.
Mara on the bus tour.
Tower of London
Now to the very exciting part of our day, the Tower of London.
Picture: The Tower Bridge and Tower of London
The Tower of London was divided into many parts. The ones we visited included the Royal Mint, the Torturing Chamber, Ravens, Bloody Tower, and the very famous Crown Jewels.
The Tower Mint
In the Royal Mint, we observed many coins from as early as 1207! We also had a chance to see some of the tools used to make coins.
When we made it to the Torturing Chamber, we got to see many ways people got tortured. These included a guillotine, a "rack", and a place where someone might be hung by their hands. A fun highlight was the Ravens perched throughout the tower. In the Bloody Tower, we walked through fairly quickly, but we got a good view of the tower.
The Crown Jewels were so beautiful and amazing. The glass cases featured the crowns, swords, and orbs. The swords usually belonged to the kings and princes, while the orbs belonged to the princesses and queens.
The Royal Guard, guarding the Crown Jewels. Their hats are made of "Canadian Black Bear" and some are more than 200 years old!
